Meet Nahomie Mwitaba, DCSRN Parent

The quality rating of the school Anaya would have attended without DCSRN’s intervention.

The quality rating of the school Anaya will now attend because of DCSRN’s intervention.

Nahomie Mwitaba is parent in Ward 7 with a rising kindergartner. Nahomie knows how important Kindergarten is to a child’s education trajectory and really wanted her daughter, Anaya, to attend a great elementary school. Before working with DCSRN, though, she did not know there was a public school choice application process, any of her daughter’s potential options or how to navigate the process.

"Trying to find a great school for my daughter was not easy and with DSCRN it was very easy and simple."
– Nahomie Mwitaba

Nahomie’s parent advocate answered all her questions about how the process worked – such as informing her she could apply to more than one school on one application – and helped her research school options, eventually applying to 12 quality schools for Anaya. Nahomie appreciated the way her parent advocate patiently and persistently followed up and communicated important information to her no matter Nahomie’s schedule. She also valued how knowledgeable her parent advocate was, asking her questions she had not thought to ask herself.

Anaya was matched to and enrolled in Rocketship DC, a quality school in Ward 8, and Nahomie is relieved her daughter will begin her elementary years in a great school option.
