DCSRN Prepares for the 2017-2018 HQSC

The common lottery application opens in just 8 weeks, and DCSRN is gearing up to make sure that this HQSC is the best yet. With recruitment underway, DCSRN is on course to once again engage families representing over 1000 students in the application process, continuing DCSRN's legacy of strong support in Ward 7 and Ward 8.

On Saturday, October 14th, returning advocates and advocate candidates came together for DCSRN's annual Fall Application Training. The training is a time for candidates to learn more about the DC education landscape, the need for DCSRN's work, and the ins-and-outs of the HQSC, while returning advocates refresh their skills and impart key knowledge gleaned from the previous campaign. The training was also attended by visitors from the the city of Cleveland, including a representative from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District

Five advocates from the 2016-2017 HQSC will return for the upcoming campaign, and DCSRN plans on welcoming three new advocates to the  team. All advocates will begin their work with families in the beginning of December.

In this interview, DCSRN talks with Juanita about her own education journey and why she thinks AppleTree and DCSRN's partnership is critical for families.
